At The Shed

House rules

< Back

  • Our community is the backbone of The Shed. We want everyone to have the same positive experience using our spaces. Please adhere to the following house rules.

    • You take full responsibility and agree to assume liability for the room, its contents, and the people you allow in during your booking.

    • No smoking or any kind of vaping is allowed anywhere inside the facility. We'll charge you if anyone in your session breaks this rule. This charge increases if a fire alarm is activated.

    • Keep doors closed to respect other clients using the space.

    • Anyone found to be using drugs or any illegal substances will be banned. The Shed DMV has a zero-tolerance policy on substance abuse. Our CCTV cameras are monitored and running 24/7.

    • Alcohol is not allowed on the premises.

    • No food or drink is allowed in studios except for water in a container that can be fully closed unless expressly approved, in advance and in writing, by The Shed DMV management. If there are any spills, clean them up immediately. There are cleaning supplies underneath the sink in the break room.

    • At the end of your session, please put all trash in receptacles and reset the room.

    • If you are the last ones in the building, please help us conserve energy by turning off the main hallway lights.

    • If anything breaks during your session, please let us know immediately via email or text. We have backup/spare accessories on site.

    • Don’t share your PIN with anyone you don’t trust (remember, you’re responsible for anyone that’s in your studio during your session time).

    • No pets allowed on the premises.

View our terms and conditions here.

  • You must be 18 years or older to sign up for a membership or create a single session booking.

Anyone under 18 who wishes to use the studio will need to attend with an adult or organization who has their own account and the adult account holder or organization’s point of contact must be present for the duration of the booking.

  • The Shed DMV allows live streaming and recording on the premises. A few things to note:

    • We do NOT allow the use of smoke machines as they pose a fire hazard in our space. Using them, or setting off the fire alarm will incur a charge.

    • If you are bringing extra equipment such as lighting, please notify us.

    • You shall not reveal any personal identifying information about individuals, without the express permission from the individual whose information is being revealed.

    • Hateful, abusive, threatening, or obscene conduct of any kind will not be tolerated, and will result in your account being terminated.

    • Content including or depicting threats of suicide or other bodily harm, verbal or physical abuse, or any use of drugs or alcohol are prohibited.

    • You are welcome to bring in your own audio/video equipment and engineers to run your session, or we can give you technician recommendations. However, in the event that any audio/video equipment causes any damage to the building or premises, you are liable for all such damages.

    • No footage of any minors shall be live-streamed or recorded on the premises.

  • 24-hour monitored security system, two-factor access control, required identity verification, and regular UMD campus security patrols mean you can practice with confidence that the space is secure day and night.

For your safety, and to protect our equipment and facilities, our CCTV’s are on and recording 24/7. For more information, please read our Terms and Conditions, CCTV Notice, and our Privacy Policy.

  • Members are allowed to use the premises for commercial use such as private lesson teaching, masterclasses, camps, recording, etc. Members can set their own rates for these services.

Please review our terms and conditions for more complete parameters around commercial use.

Please remember that members are responsible for all their guests/customers when on the premises.

Studio information

  • Yes. The network and password is listed in every studio and in most common spaces.

You also must be on our WiFi network in order for your digital entry key to work properly. You will receive the WiFi information in your onboarding email.

  • We have 36 dedicated parking spots right in front of the building.

  • The Shed DMV is ADA compliant with all doorways being at least 35 inches wide, handrails in the restrooms, and handicap accessible parking. There are no raised floors or platforms, and everything is on one level. If you have any concerns, please email us.

    1. There is no dedicated staff for your session. During business hours, there is usually staff milling around, and they’re happy to help if you need something. If you need dedicated staff for your session, we’re happy to provide. Be sure to request that when you fill out the intake form.

    2. We will provide the equipment that you asked for when you signed up for your session and may not be able to accommodate last minute requests or changes. Why? We pull all of our equipment from our backline inventory, and it might be booked for another client or project.

    3. Your session times are fixed. Why? Because we need time to flip rooms for any clients coming in after you. If you need more set up or tear down time, please factor that in when scheduling your session.

  • In addition to house gear and requested add-ons, we will provide all necessary stands and cables, and we have plenty of spares on site.

Small cables and accessories are very specific to the gear they're being used for, so please bring any cables/accessories/chargers for any personal items (laptops, phones, interfaces, etc.)

We do not provide drumsticks, guitar picks, straps, capos, or extra strings.

  • Absolutely. Please attach them to your intake form when booking your studio. Additional items outside of the standard bundles will be pro-rated based on rider size.

Large rider setup/tear down will require onsite house staff and/or backline technicians (additional fee).

  • During normal business hours, we are happy to provide assistance for any general needs. If you need dedicated tech support or staff for your specific session, please indicate that on your intake form.

QR codes that link directly to our robust help pages can be found in every studio.

  • Included in all memberships and bookings is access to the green room, break room, and restrooms. We ask that our members treat these areas with respect by cleaning up trash, wiping up any drips or spills, washing any reusable dishes, and keeping your volume to a respectful level.

    • Green Room - tea, coffee, and water station, smart TV, couches and lounge chairs for relaxing, and ample natural light

    • Break Room - vending machine, refrigerator, microwave, tables and chairs, dishwashing necessities, cleaning supplies

    • Restrooms - two gender neutral restrooms, one equipped with a baby changing table

  • If you find an item, please hand to a staff member. If no one is onsite, leave in the studio, and send us a text or email.

If you lost an item please contact us as soon as possible. As our studios are used frequently, we cannot guarantee retrieval of any items left behind.

The Shed DMV is not responsible for any lost or misplaced personal items on the premises.

  • The thermostats are on a set schedule and cannot be adjusted by clients. If you are uncomfortable (ie, too hot or too cold) during business hours, you may find a staff member and they will temporarily adjust the temperature for you.

If there are any malfunctions or concerns, please immediately notify a staff member or email us at info@thesheddmv.com.

  • Call 911 first, then locate a staff member and alert them to the situation.

  • Yes! Please email us to set up a time to tour the space. Tours typically take 15-30 minutes.

  • REHEARSING

The Shed was designed as a rehearsal facility, and while we have industrial door seals, internal attenuation, and external absorption materials in all studios, you should expect some amount of bleed if there are multiple clients using the space simultaneously.

    RECORDING

We recommend blocking out the entire facility if you want to record. Because our members can book on-demand and at their convenience, we cannot guarantee that you will be the only group in the space otherwise.

Building/studio access + troubleshooting

    1. Download the Brivo app and set up your account. Check your onboarding email for more info.

    2. Once you arrive for your session, connect to our WiFi, and let yourself in.

  • You’ll need to create an account and verify your ID.

Once you’ve done that and scheduled your first session, you’ll receive an onboarding email with building access instructions.

There are two different ways you will access the space - the Brivo app and your PIN.

Brivo is your digital key that will grant you access to the front door of the building. You must use your smartphone and be on our WiFi in order for this digital key to work. Upon your first booking, you will receive an onboarding email that will contain an invitation to Brivo with instructions on how to set it up.

  • TO OPEN THE FRONT DOOR - you must be connected to our WiFi network (The Shed) for your Brivo access to work

    • Once you are connected to our WiFi, open the Brivo app, select Front Door, and once you hear the “click,” pull on the handle and the door will open

    • If you don’t see any doors on the app, tap on the search bar and it will appear

    IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE

    • Double check your session time - your access will not begin until 15 minutes prior to your session’s start time

    • Make sure you are on our WiFi network (The Shed) - the info will be in your onboarding email
